Turkey/USA - First
success story of a V*MOTE/V*CALL system by a Turkish broadcaster in
Istanbul, the Power Radio group.
V*MOTE is an audio-over-IP software solution for remote contributions -
usually a journalist in the field reporting back to a studio. By simply
installing V*MOTE onto any laptop PC, it becomes a professional
"contribution" codec. Advanced ergonomics make it extremely simple to
set up and operate, enabling the journalist to establish a connection
with a newsroom or studio at the touch of a button.
Power Radio's technical director, Okan Celen, confirmed that ease of
use was one of the biggest selling points for him. "We needed a simple yet high
quality solution for our journalists in the field to be able to report
back to the studio without having to take a lot of costly and bulky
equipment with them," he said. "The quality and latency also had
to be good enough to be able to broadcast live when necessary. We asked
Fehmi Kartal at Radikal for his advice - we've been using Digigram
sound cards for eight years and we trust Radikal implicitly - and he
recommended V*MOTE in conjunction with V*CALL. So far our experience
with the set-up has been 100% positive."
The first journalist to use V*MOTE was Bunyamin Surmeli, one of
Turkey's best-known meteorologists. The application was installed onto
his laptop, and he then went out on assignment to Los Angeles for
almost a month. Back in the studio, V*CALL, a software IP audio codec
with SIP, was installed onto the studio's PC workstation. When used in
conjunction with an audio interface, it is the work of a moment to
implement a professional grade "contribution" codec to set up a
full-duplex connection between a reporter and a newsroom or studio.
"It was all so easy and
straightforward," noted Celen. "Training took precisely one
minute flat for both the journalist and the DJ - once everything is
installed, it takes seconds to implement. Secondly, it has to be said
that the audio quality is exceptional, and I was very impressed at how
little latency there was for audio of this quality. All in all an
excellent solution."
