What are the hardware and system requirements for VXpocket 440?
PC: one standard type II card slot, PC-Card compliant; one available IRQ line (level sensitive); 16 bytes of available I/O space.
Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Mac: one standard type II card slot, PC-Card compliant, Apple MacOS 9.1 or higher, MacOS 10.1 or higher, Apple PowerBook G3 and G4.
What are the benefits of VXpocket 440?
VXpocket 440 is a MAC and PC compatible multichannel sound card by Digigram.
It brings professional sound quality to your laptop computer. Using the standard PCMCIA slot, it is the most compact solution to let you perform highly sophisticated audio processing anywhere you need to.
After some time of use, the VXpocket 440 gets very hot. Anything wrong?
The VXpocket 440 getting hot is known and should not be a problem. This is due to the high density of the card.
Can I play/record at the same time on analog and digital outputs/inputs?
The VXpocket 440 always delivers the same signal on both analog 1-2 and digital outputs. Analog outputs 3-4 are independant.
To record, you'll have to select from either line, mic or digital input.
Does the card work in full-duplex mode?
4-channel full-duplex operation is limited to 16-bit samples. 4in/4out with 24-bit samples overloads the PC-card bus. Thanks to hardware monitoring though, it is possible to record and monitor 4 channels with no concern of what sample resolution is used, with simultaneous playback of 2 channels.
How do applications use the LTC input?
The LTC input can be essentially managed by applications that feature the ASIO2 positionning protocol (currently Cubase 3.7 and higher, Cubase SX, Nuendo 1.0 and higher; please contact your software editor for updated information on this). Under Windows 2000 and XP, the LTC input can be seen as a MTC input from any MIDI application MTC-compliant (eg. Cool Edit Pro, Samplitude...).
I have installed the VX Kit corresponding to my operating system and several driver modules are now available. Which one shall I choose to use?
Digigram provides different driver modules to optimize the performance of Digigram soundcards, according to the audio engine embedded in the audio software used.
The key is to choose the right module (ASIO, Wave, SoundManager, CoreAudio or DirectSound) within the options menu of a given audio application, which can "be" ASIO, Wave, SoundManager, CoreAudio or DirectSound. Otherwise, an emulated driver is used and the performance is not optimized.
On PC, there is a # sign in the name of the Wave driver; there is 'WDM' in the name of the DirectSound driver. On Mac and PC, ASIO drivers are easily identified with the name 'DigigramASIO'.
Which audio formats does VXpocket 440 support?
PCM 8, 16 and 24 bit at sampling frequencies 8, 11.025, 16, 22.05, 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz are supported. 24bit samples are supported by the Wave, the CoreAudio and the ASIO drivers but not by the DirectSound and the SoundManager drivers, of wich specifications are limited to 16bit by Microsoft and Apple respectively.
The VXpocket 440 has balanced inputs and outputs. Does it support unbalanced operation as well?
Yes, but Digigram does not provide unbalanced cables. The cable would have to be modified. If you do not want to do so, we recommend adapters from Neutrik. For further information please visit http://www.neutrik.com
What is the function of the screws on the VXpocket 440 cable ?
The screws on the VXpocket 440 cable allow to firmly attach the cable to the computer and to protect the threads in the card. Also when removing the cable from the VXpocket 440 card, press gently on the lateral sides of the connector that will help not to damage the connector and the card.
Which digital formats does VXpocket 440 support?
Both SPDIF and AES/EBU are supported. SPDIF corresponds to consumer mode, and AES/EBU corresponds to professional mode. Input format is detected automatically. Output format must be selected in the control panel corresponding to the driver used.
Which drivers are available?
Digigram's range of VX boards is supported by the drivers of the VX Kit. For PC it includes the following drivers:
How can I switch the inputs to microphone gain?
VXpocket440 has three input gains: 0dB (line gain), +30dB abd +48dB (both mic gain).
For a 0dB gain, a +10dBu signal is recorded at 0dbfs.
For a +30dB gain, a -20dBu signal is recorded at 0dbfs.
For a +48dB gain, a -38dBu signal is recorded at 0dbfs.
Please read carfully the user's manual to adjust the input gain.
When I launch the Digigram mixer it says there is no card installed, what do I do?
