THE NEED
A Naval force needs to replace an obsolete system used to establish and control radio
communications between a communication center and vessels sailing across the globe. A
network of ground sites, scattered worldwide, is equipped with multiple analog radio
transmitters, transceivers and modems enabling the ship/shore unidirectional and
bidirectional communications with vessels. Each site has a maximum number of 64 radios.
THE CHALLENGE
One main requirement for the success of this project is synchronization and very low latency in audio transmissions. The new radio over IP system is expected to establish each communication via a managed wide area IP network, and voice and PTT/Squelch triggers will be transported with low latency and must be kept synchronized within 1ms. Mono or stereo must be used to transport
voice channels and multiple radio destinations can be selected to transmit the same signal in perfect synchronization. Additionally, the client requested the development of a VCCS software application (Voice Communication Control System). Digigram joined this project through a leader in the integration and deployment of mission-critical communication systems. They trusted Digigram would provide a tailor-made solution fitting these requirements, anticipating that IQOYA SERV/LINK, Digigram’s 1U rack multichannel IP audio gateway, would be a good candidate to be at the core of this RoIP communication system.
THE SOLUTION
Digigram plans to install an IQOYA SERV/LINK combined with Auvitran Audio Toolbox units at each
site. IQOYA SERV/LINK DANTE is a RoIP gateway which allows for 64 full duplex communications over IP, including voice and PTT/Squelch triggers. Audio Toolbox is a modular audio matrix (1U or 2U rack) enabling the seamless routing of audio channels and interoperability of audio protocols, using I/O cards designed for the rack. For this project, analog I/ O cards (16in, or 16 out, or 8 in & 8 out), and GPIO cards are used in the rack to match the required number of channels at each site.
Dante AoIP technology operates the exchange of channels between IQOYA SERV/LINK and audio
Toolbox units. The Dante network is also used to transport the PTT and Squelch states. IQOYA SERV/LINK is fully manageable via SNMPv3, where the customer can develop the VCCS application offering the required security level. This application sends commands to all the IQOYA SERV/LINK units connected to the WAN to dynamically establish and control all the communication links, and monitor the quality of the IP transport.
